Highway Commissioner

Dayton Jarnagin, Wheatland Township Highway Commissioner, is a thirty-four(34) year resident of unincorporated Naperville. Dayton, his wife Ruth and their three (3) children: Dayton II (Kelli Tufo), Mark (Michele Tucknott-Josh & Jake) and Tammy (Paul Schutzenhofer-Lily & Sara) moved here from Cicero, Illinois.

Dayton was born in Cherokee,Alabama and moved to Illinois with his family when he was about 15 years old. He attended Peoria Manual High School and Morton Junior College. Dayton also served two (2) years in the United States Army. Dayton was employed at Reynolds Metals Company in McCook,Illinois for thirty (30) years, less two (2) years for military service.

In June of 1987, after retiring from Reynolds, Dayton went to work for the Wheatland Township Road District. He was lead-man and ran the entire crew. In 1992 he decided he could do a better job if he were Highway Commissioner so he ran for the office and was elected in 1993. He has well served Wheatland Township residents ever since. He is always looking for better ways to serve our community without raising taxes. In fact he has managed to consecutively lower Road District taxes and still improve services to you, the taxpayers. He maintains sixty-four(64) miles of unincorporated roadways, the park and the cemetery and does it well.

Dayton has been President of the Will County Highway Commissioner's Association for the past four(4) years. He is also a member of Township Officials of Illinois, Northern Illinois Highway Commissioner's Association, Plainfield American Legion and Holy Spirit Catholic Community.

Dayton is dedicated to his family, friends and neighbors.
